Vigo

Situated on the southern bank of the ria of the same name, the town nestles on the slopes of low hills dominated by the two castles of San Sebastian abd EI Castro. The city is an active port and an inmportant road and rail center. Local industries are centered around fish processing. Among the other principal towns of galcia are pontevedra (Pop. 50,483) and EI Ferrol del cadillo (Pop.74,799), which is today and has been since the first decade of the 18th century, the most important spanish naval base on the atlantic.
